The Underwater River

Absolutely amazing and surreal images on Anatoly Beloshchin's photo blog: Sixty meters down, in an underwater cave, a "river" of hydrogen sulphide flows through and beneath the salty water. Wow.

amazing

that is why I am a scuba diver

the things under the ocean are more interesting than those found above land

Absolutely stunning images and I cannot beleive how clear they are.

My over-active imagination keeps me from doing this stuff. I'll admit it.

I get into settings like that and my better judgement goes out the window and my mind conjures up all manner of nightmares lurking around every corner and in every shadow.

Very cool find.

Attenborough's "Blue Planet" series devoted an episode to the pocket ecosystems that grow up around those pools, and the ones that develop around 'hot smoker' vents. There was something in the commentary about every shot in the sequence having a species new to science in it...
