For a while now I've been wanting to play D&D underground. Silly and nerdy, yes, but how cool would that be? So sometime next month, or maybe early June, I'm hoping to get a couple of friends together along with my nephew and I, and head down a lava tube for a sort of pick up game of Swords & Wizardry. In all likelihood they won't be able to make it, but Joe and I will still try... Pictured above is a friend from a previous trip, and one possible gaming location (because of the slight additional light).

It can add a lot of fun to play in a "similar" environment. I once got to play Call of Cthulhu in a South Louisiana swamp by kerosene lantern. We went out in pirogues on Friday, set up a camp on a rise 30-40 minutes in, gamed all weekend and polled back Sunday afternoon. Definitely added atmosphere to an already good keeper.
Happily the nightmares have subsided in the last 23 years ......
That sounds excellent - definitely a lot easier to find the right environment for a game like CoC. For some reason, the idea of pitching a tent on the roof of a mall and playing a zombies rpg just came to mind. :)
Can't wait to see the pics. :)
sounds and looks amazing. the coolest (or nerdiest, depends on your POV) place i've played dnd is a stone circle. my friend's parents bought some land and built their own! look forward to the pics
If you see Tom Hanks walking around, it isn't real.
Cool. I organized a gamping/backpacking trip into the Sierras once. Was fun to take the social, imaginative game out into the real outdoors.
If it is around June I can probably show up.
